Aubridge serves as the China Sourcing Office for a $600 million U.S. automotive supplier. Because of our client’s stringent quality requirements, they need an on-the-ground China sourcing team to identify top-notch suppliers, manage quality and lead-time at those suppliers, and troubleshoot problems as they occur. Rather than build an in-house team, which is cost-prohibitive for its size, our client has chosen to partner with Aubridge and leverage our expertise and experience in the China automotive market. Aubridge has successfully executed projects in the following areas:
- Supplier identification and due diligence – Aubridge conducted extensive market research on the China automotive brake products market. Through an extensive screening process using both primary and secondary information, we developed a long-list of approximately 100 Chinese brake suppliers. In conjunction with the client, we narrowed the universe to five suppliers that the client can begin sourcing relationships with.
- Supplier audits – Aubridge audited potential suppliers on behalf of the client and prepared in-depth reports on the suppliers covering key operational, financial, and management issues. These audits were performed or supervised by an Aubridge partner who is a QS9000 auditor.
- Supplier development – An existing supplier had quality problems which the client could not resolve on its own due to cultural differences and language barrier. The supplier was also not familiar with the client’s corrective action procedure. Aubridge bridged the two sides by clarifying requirements and expectations from the client and teaching the supplier on how to meet them in a timely and effective manner.
- Sourcing project management – Aubridge facilitated engineering communication and day-to-day project management between our client and various Chinese suppliers.
Through the Aubridge China Sourcing Office, our client can go “direct” to the Chinese suppliers. Our client saves multiple layers of commission (from China- and U.S. -based trading companies) and can manage quality and lead-time through the dedicated Aubridge team. The end result is better products at tremendous cost savings.
